Description

If you hail from Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, or New York you can find pirogies - those lovingly filled Polish dumplings - almost everywhere. The Pacific Northwest? Not so much. Come join Marianna Stepniewski and learn how to make the ultimate winter comfort food on your own. In this class we will make pierogi dough from scratch and then prepare the following varieties: mushroom, leek, and roasted fennel, roasted carrot and caraway, and brandied apple and farmer's cheese with a vanilla custard sauce for dessert. You will then learn how to boil and pan sear your creations as well as how to prepare your pierogies for long term storage.

About the Chef/Instructor:

Marianna is a pastry chef and Washington native who grew up on a fruit orchard in the lower Yakima valley. After moving to Seattle to pursue her Bachelor's Degree in English and Creative Writing Marianna spent several years in retail and veterinary clinic management. In 2013 Marianna found herself assisting cooking classes for a nationwide retail store and was lucky to find several mentors who took her under their wings.

By the fall Marianna quit the veterinary clinic and started her first full-time baking position in 2014. Now you can find Marianna either making pastries or teaching students how to make them themselves. She also enjoys teaching savory menus and on any given day can be found teaching all over the Puget Sound area and as far east as Snoqualmie. Marianna currently lives in Seattle with her corgi Bowie.

Meaning “from the earth”, Della Terra ventures include catering, cooking classes, and events, all staying true to the philosophy of using the best ingredients available from the local harvest. This allows us to be creative with the vast bounty we have available in the Northwest, resulting in better tasting and better-for-you food that benefits the environment and the local economy. We source the majority of our ingredients from within the community from local farms and producers, many of which are located just down the road in Snohomish.

Cooking Classes:

Our mission is to create a sense of community, and to empower folks to cook real food using local and seasonal ingredients. Featuring recipes that are easy to replicate at home, the classes are hands-on, fun, and engaging. The cooking classes are led by a deep and diverse line-up of chef-instructors, who all have incredible education and experience to bring to the table.
