Event description

Description

'Perfectionist' is a term we throw around and, in some cases, revere. But for many of us, perfectionism is a daily battle that can become a hindrance rather than a catalyst for success. Perhaps you...

  • Place huge importance on how others receive your work
  • Struggle to delegate, knowing that you could complete the task better yourself
  • Place extremely high standards on yourself and others
  • Obsess over perfecting details before you can share your work
  • Catastrophise over things that could potentially go wrong, and berate yourself over things that have gone wrong in the past

Each of these traits can be positive, driving us to success and high performance. But not kept in check, perfectionist tendencies can lead to missed deadlines, poor people management, negative self talk and ultimately, burnout.

This panel event is not about how to suppress the perfectionist within. It's a discussion to explore how we can harness and manage these traits to thrive in work and in life, and get to the point where we are in control - not the nagging voice in our heads!

Panellists

Sari Griffiths, Chief Design Officer, Red Badger

I love creating a product that looks great and works a treat. I have a background in branding and bookbinding, so have a tendency to go on about brand visions and telling stories. I love working in cross functional and autonomous teams and can be a bit geeky about the process. Before joining Red Badger, I worked with clients such as Orange, T-Mobile and Sony. I enjoy karaoke and dancing - especially the gaming kind, and baking cakes.

Charlotte Hamill, Joint Managing Director, Born Social

I joined the founding team of award winning social media agency, Born Social, in 2012 to head up client services and have since risen to take on the role of Managing Director, managing the company's growth into a team of 35 and one of the UK’s leading social media agencies. Born Social create and deliver social media strategies for hundreds of challenger brands – “Davids”, not Goliaths – globally. My vision for the agency is driven by my strong beliefs that social media is the marketing platform that has the most to offer brands and that the world is better place when David wins.

Outside of Born Social, I have just completed The Marketing Academy scholarship programme, I’m an active member of The Agency Collective and I recently won the Women in Marketing ‘One to Watch’ award.

James Routledge, Founder, Sanctus

I set up Sanctus to create the brand that I wish had existed for me and for millions of others. A brand that aims to redefine mental health as a whole and help people become the best version of themselves. We do this through coaching, community events and working with businesses where we create the environment for people to openly talk about mental health.

Our big goal is to put the world's first mental health Gym on the high street and make mental fitness as mainstream physical fitness. We aim to be the Nike of mental fitness.

Jon Yardley, Tech Lead, Red Badger

I joined Red Badger in 2015 and have primarily helped to deliver and grow the Fortnum & Mason e-commerce platform as Tech Lead. During Christmas 2017 the Fortnum & Mason site outperformed all previous seasons having it's most successful week and day since it's launch in 2014. I also led the tech team that transformed Camden Market's online presence with a new, cutting-edge platform in just ten weeks resulting in an increase in new users from their target audience by 75%.

Although being interested in technology from an early age, my formal training was in Music. I specialised in piano and conducting at Cardiff University before a brief career as a freelance musician performing at St. David's Hall, Wales Millennium Centre and on BBC Radio 3. After this, I spent several years working in astronomy education for the Faulkes Telescope Project and Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network. It was here where I started to learn my craft as an engineer and had the privilege of working with NASA on the Deep Impact Mission.

Facilitator

Babs Ofori-Acquah, Founder, Crazy Ambition

Having experienced first hand the perils of perfectionism, its dear friend anxiety, and other mental health issues, I'm passionate about promoting the importance of wellbeing for even the most career-focused high achievers. That's why I created Crazy Ambition, which uses talks, events and workshops to support driven individuals in achieving their goals without compromising on their mental and physical wellbeing.
