Event description

Description

Percona University is a series of free technical events hosted by Percona. The first event of this kind was held in 2013.

These free events take place in cities across the world, and this April 25 we are visiting Buenos Aires. Most of Percona's staff work remotely and we have a sizeable, friendly team in South America, particularly in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil.

As well as providing technical presentations on open source database technologies, particularly MySQL, MongoDB and PostgreSQL, we enjoy the opportunity to meet the community of open source database users, developers and technologists.

Schedule

1.30pm Registration, and networking over coffee and pastries

2.00pm Welcome

2.10pm Installing Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM) and Basic PMM by Max Bubenick, Platform Lead, Percona

In this session we are going to review the different options to deploy PMM, and take a more detailed look at the docker PMM Server. Some of the topics included are

- PMM Server Deployment
- PMM Client for multiple server types (MySQL, Proxysql, ...)
- PMM managed for RDS
- Upgrade
- Security

3.10pm Short break

3.20pm Performance review with PMM by Daniel Guzmán Burgos, Technical Lead, Percona

The sole purpose for the DBA to exist is to act as a guarantee on behalf of the database. A guarantee for high availability, a guarantee for data security and consistency, and finally a guarantee for performance. The latter can be tricky if there's not enough visibility. Luckily, we have PMM now.

In this tutorial we'll see how to answer the right questions (and how to know which are the right questions) through the usage of PMM in respect of:

- Statistic Analysis
- Environment Overview
- Query Analysis
- Customization of graphs for specific purpose

4.30pm 30 minute break

5.00pm Keynote by Peter Zaitsev: Polyglot Persistence. Using Multiple Databases for different purposes

6.00pm Percona Toolkit An Overview by Carlos Salguero, Software Engineer, Percona

Short overview of the Percona toolkit

  • Configuration

  • Examples with real cases:
    - Present our new tool `pt-minimum-permissions`
    - alter tables with `pt-online-schema change`
    - efficient sync between servers with `pt-table-sync`
    - integrity check on slaves with `pt-table-checksum`
    - log analysis with `pt-query-digest`
    - how to diagnose with `pt-stalk`
    - how to kill queries that match some criteria with `pt-kill`

6.30pm How to monitor +850 databases in real time, Nicolás Soengas and Pablo Svampa from medallia.com
- Current implementation
- Automatic provisioning
- Alerts and metrics

7.00pm Closing comments

Event ends at 7.10pm, but you are invited to join us for informal networking at Genk Beer House from 7.30pm

Percona is proud to be the unbiased champion of open source database software!
