Marcelo Lucero Unity Tour
We are using this trip as a means to raise money for the first phase of a community building initiative planned for this summer called the Marcelo Lucero Unity Tour to Fire Island. Marcelo Lucero was an Ecuadorian immigrant who was brutally murdered by a gang of white teenagers on November 8, 2008. This horrific event left the local Latino community feeling hurt and isolated.
Proceeds and donations from this bus trip will help to fund a gathering of the local Latino community members and other local residents at Watch Hill, Fire Island. It is a chance for people to come together, learn and enjoy each other’s company. This tour is part of a larger initiative that aims to build community relationships, and improve awareness of and increase usage of the Fire Island National Seashore by the local Latino community. FFINS intends to plan future community building events and activities. We are asking participants of People’s Climate Movement to consider an additional optional donation to support the Marcelo Lucero Unity Tour.
