The Wharton School and Penn IUR will host a public interest event, featuring an address by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, “The Future of the US Housing System: Getting to Consensus”followed by a panel of distinguished national expertson October 25, 2012, from 2:30 to 4:00. Panelists include: Michael Berman, Chairman, Mortgage Bankers Association, Philip Swagel, (former) Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy (2006-2009), U.S. Department of the Treasury, and Barry Zigas, Director of Housing Policy, Consumer Federation of America. Five years after the start of the housing crisis, the event will be an occasion to discuss if there is or can be found a way to consensus on fundamental issues for a reformed housing finance system including the replacement of the Government-sponsored Enterprises (GSEs), Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the implementation of the extensive mortgage reforms in the Dodd-Frank legislation.
