Unrated Intermediate Section
This section is open to any grade level (K-8), but only to players who are not USCF members.
3 Tickets Ended Free  
Unrated Beginner 1 Section (3rd - 5th graders)
K-2nd graders may play in this section if they are up to the challenge. Players are expected to know how to play chess, the touch-move rule, how to use a chess clock, and basics such as how to checkmate with a king and queen. Players may be moved up from this section to Intermediate at TD discretion.

Unrated Beginner 2 Section (K - 2nd graders only)
Players are expected to know how to play chess, the touch-move rule, how to use a chess clock, and basics such as how to checkmate with a king and queen. Players may be moved up from this section to Beginner 1 or Intermediate at TD discretion.

Trophy Fund Donation
Trophies are funded strictly through donations. Please consider donating via the EventBrite registration page, or donate via PayPal (see link below). Please note: donating only does not register your child. To register, you still need to select a registration entry above. You may also donate via cash or check at the event.

Event Details

IMPORTANT:  This tournament is only open to children living in the San Francisco Peninsula area.

Summary

  • Date:  Friday, December 4, 2015
  • Time:  6:30pm - 9pm
  • Location:  Belmont Public Library
  • Pre-registration is required.
  • For K-8th graders on the peninsula.
  • There will be 6 sections of approximately 15 players each:
    • USCF advanced section (approx rated 800-1200)
    • USCF intermediate section (approx rated 400-800
    • USCF beginner section (approx rated under 400)
    • Unrated intermediate
    • Unrated beginner 1 (3rd-5th grade)
    • Unrated beginner 2 (K-2nd grade)
  • All games in the USCF sections will be USCF Quick-Rated.
  • Time control for USCF-rated games:  G/15; d2 (Game in 15 minutes with a 2 second delay)
  • Time control for unrated games:  G/17 (Game in 17 minutes, no delay)
  • Each player will play 3 games.
  • Individual swiss format, except players are guaranteed not to play against other players from their school.
  • Round times:  6:45pm, 7:25pm, 8:10pm.  Trophies:  8:50pm
  • Players must play for the school they currently attend, except 5th graders (and below) may play for their elementary school alma mater
  • 6th graders and above must play in either the unrated intermediate section, or one of the USCF rated sections.
  • Trophies will mainly be distributed based on team performance.  Limited individual trophies will be available.  See below for details.
  • Your team has a better chance of winning trophies if your team has more players, so encourage your classmates to register.
