LMHQ event space hosts the November Pen Parentis Literary Salon at 150 Broadway 20th floor.

Tuesday, November 12th

7:00pm - 9:00pm

$10 suggested donation

Free if you are a supporting Title Member of Pen Parentis, a Salons regular, or if you are in need. All book lovers are welcome, 21+

complimentary wine and refreshments

In addition, Pen Parentis will present a $1000 check to its newest Pen Parentis Writing Fellow, Anjali Vaidya, who will read her winning story. This talented emerging writer with a two year old daughter is from San Diego, CA, and will be showcased and mentored by Pen Parentis for the next year as well as published by Dreamers Creative Writing Magazine. The award will be presented by screenwriter/performer Abby Sher, the first Pen Parentis Fellow, from 2010.

order of events:

7:00pm gathering, mingling with writers and other guests, drinking wine, noshing, networking, getting to know the regulars and writers in the room

7:15pm MM gives introduction (livecast) and Christina presents the authors who each do readings to highlight the night's theme.

8:00pm livecast ends and intimate Q&A discussion begins, with audience participation encouraged.

8:45pm event ends, book signings.

A limited number of books will be available for purchase. Feel free to bring your own.

BIOS:

Keetje Kuipers is the author of three books of poetry: All Its Charms, The Keys to the Jail, and Beautiful in the Mouth. Her work has appeared in such publications as The New York Times Magazine, and has been included in both The Pushcart Prize and Best American Poetry anthologies, read on NPR’s Writer’s Almanac, and honored with a Wallace Stegner fellowship, Bread Loaf fellowship, and the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Residency. Kuipers teaches at Hugo House and is Senior Editor at Poetry Northwest. She lives with her wife and daughter on an island in the Salish Sea where they are that one queer family on the ferry.

Jimin Han was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in Providence, Rhode Island; Dayton, Ohio; and Jamestown, New York. She attended Cornell University as an undergraduate and earned an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. Her writing can be found in NPR’s “Weekend America, Poets & Writers Magazine, The Rumpus, and elsewhere. A Small Revolution, her first novel, was among Entropy’s Best Fiction of 2017, Pleiades Editors’ Choice 2017, Redbook Magazine’s 20 Books By Women You Must Read This Spring, Buzzfeed’s 6 Binge-worthy Literary Books of May, CNN’s Summer Beach Reads, and Electric Literature’s list of 34 Books By Women of Color To Read This Year and list of Ten Galvanizing Books About Political Protest. She teaches at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College and lives outside New York City with her husband and children.

Marie Myung-Ok Lee is an acclaimed Korean-American writer and author of the novel Somebody's Daughter. The Evening Hero, a novel on the future of medicine, immigration and North Korea, is forthcoming with Simon & Schuster. She graduated from Brown University and teaches at Columbia University's Writing Division. Her stories and essays have been published in The Atlantic, The New York Times, Slate, Salon, Guernica, and The Guardian, among others. She was the first Fulbright Scholar to Korea in creative writing and has received many honors for her work, including an O. Henry honorable mention, the Best Book Award from the Friends of American Writers, and a Rhode Island State Council on the Arts fiction fellowship and is a current New York Foundation for the Arts Fiction Fellow. A Yaddo and MacDowell Colony fellow, she has served as a judge for the National Book Award. In addition, Ms. Lee is a founder of the Asian American Writers' Workshop.
