Training Objectives

  1. Participants will obtain an understanding of the Criminal Justice Support Recovery (CJSR) competency areas including the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for certification.
  2. Participants will develop an understanding of the challenges/barriers as well as the opportunities for peer integration in justice settings.
  3. Participants will be able to describe the necessary skills for working within a correctional/justice setting as a recovery peer professional.


About Benjamin Deeb PSP, CJSR, CRPA, CARC:

Benjamin Deeb is a person in long term recovery after 25 years of active use, 10 of which were spent in and out of jails and prisons in New York and Florida.

Benjamin is a Peer Professional holding the following certifications in NY: Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA), Criminal Justice Supported Recovery Professional (CJSR), Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC), and Peer Supervision Professional (PSP).

Benjamin Spearheaded the development of the Medication Assisted Treatment program, Recovery Unit, and re-entry program in 2019 for the Saratoga County Correctional Facility. The program is recognized by the Office of Addiction Services and Supports as best practice for corrections in NY.

Benjamin was invited as a subject matter expert to assist the New York Certification Board in development of the Criminal Justice Supported Recovery Professional (CJSR) certification.

Benjamin Deeb is The Owner of Ben Deeb Training and Consulting and co-developer of the 20-hour training “Peer Professionals in Correctional/Justice Settings: How Recovery-Oriented Peer Services Reduce Risk and Promote Change”, which is approved by the New York Certification Board for the 20-hour foundational requirement for CJSR certification. To date Benjamin and his training partner Deb Rhoades have trained 250 Peer Professionals working in justice settings in NY, MA, and VT.
