Event description
FREE Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma Prevention & Recognition Virtual Training for Oral Health Professionals

About this event

Oral health professionals play a unique and important role in the prevention, recognition, and reporting of child maltreatment. Join the Kosair Charities Face It Movement and Delta Dental of Kentucky for a FREE training on Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma prevention  and recognition.

Pediatric abusive head trauma (PAHT), or shaken baby syndrome, is a severe form of child abuse that most often involves infants. In these Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma Prevention & Recognition trainings, participants will learn the early signs of maltreatment and the various injuries and conditions that may result from vigorous shaking, slamming, or impacting the head of an infant or young child. Participants will also be provided with tools for dealing with a crying infant and ways to share information with parents to prevent abuse from occurring.

Training objectives are to explain the statistics of abusive head trauma; to describe and explain abusive head trauma and its associated injuries; to discuss risk factors and prevention, and to understand the outcomes for victims.

REGISTER for the FREE virtual training with pediatric forensic nurse Carla Hay on Friday, October 8th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET. In addition to the training, participants will learn about the Kentucky Oral Health Coalition and discuss immediate action steps to ensure Kentucky children are safe from maltreatment. Please register with an email address that will allow incoming correspondence.
