Description
Biking is good for the economy, small business and your health. It's also a great alternative to car or bus transportation (two things Detroit actually has very little of). Get in on the discussion and help shape the future of Detroit's cycling infrastructure.
Join Mode Shift: Move Together for a panel discussion about how Detroit is becoming a more bike-friendly city, and the role bicycling culture and infrastructure should play the city's revitalization.
Anticipated panelists include Ritchie Harrison, Jefferson East, Inc.; Dan Kinkead, Detroit Future City; Jon Koller, Friends of Spaulding Court & Car-Free Discounts; Lisa Nuszkowski, Wayne State University Bike Share Feasibility Study; Todd Scott, Detroit Greenways Coalition and Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance; and Marja Winters, City of Detroit Planning and Development Department.
We ask for a small donation to secure a seat: $1, $5, $25; whatever you can afford. Standing room is free, but please register as space is limited.
Recent years have witnessed an explosion of organizations, businesses and events focused on bicycling in Detroit. How can we more effectively work together to accelerate the positive changes we're seeing take place for a common goal? And what should Detroit's biking infrastructure look like for the future?
The progress with greenways and bike lanes being made is top notch. But overall, when Detroit is compared to national standards set by the League of American Cyclists, we are definitely not there yet. And, in a city where most residents of driving age do not have access to cars, can cycling help meet their transportation needs?
We'll have an honest discussion about where we are and where we need to go, and why, and how you can get involved.
