If you need something else to do after our event you can visit Kent’s newly developed downtown area which in fact will be hosting the 11th annual Main Street Kent Art & Wine Festival from 12 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Pedal-with-Pete is also searching for event volunteers and donations of door prizes, food, drinks, and/or promotional items. If you are interested, please let us know and we will contact you!

The foundation is all volunteer-based, with approximately 85% of the funds that are raised going directly to fund cerebral palsy research. Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain that control muscle movements, therefore the research can lead to life-improving treatments. Because Pedal-with-Pete is a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are fully tax-deductible. Pedal-with-Pete was founded by longtime Kent resident Peter Zeidner, who has cerebral palsy, because of the lack of research on the condition. Since its inception in 1993, the foundation has raised more than $1,000,000 for CP research.

If you want to help Pete with his mission to fund CP research,

  • Mail your donation to Pedal-with-Pete, P.O. Box 274, Kent, Ohio 44240 or add a donation when you register for this event.
  • Register here for the Kent ride or walk.
  • Contact ride co-chair Jim Stroble at strobes@neo.rr.com to volunteer or donate door prizes, food, drinks, and/or promotional items.

Pedal-with-Pete thanks you!

Pedal-with-Pete Foundation

Mission: Pedal-with-Pete is a philanthropic organization, dedicated to raising funds for research to improve the quality of life for persons wtih cerebral palsy.

In 1993, Pete Zeidner, an Ohio resident and former cyclist who has CP, gathered this all-volunteer team forming the Pedal-with-Pete Foundation to raise money for research to help prevent, treat, and even cure the effects of cerebral palsy.

The Pedal-with-Pete Foundation annually moderates three charity cycling/walking events in the midwest.

We continue to be a discerning funder of CP research thanks to the support of donors, participants in the events, and sponsors like YOU!

These two exciting and promising grants were awarded with funds raised in 2016 (the entire grant-making history is found at pedal-with-pete.org/grants/previous-grant-recipients/ )

  • Researchers at Yale School of Medicine in Connecticut will non-invasively study the brains of premature infantsusing advanced MRI techniques to determine the relationship between oxygen levels provided in the hospital and the impact on outcome with respect to cerebral palsy. Although low levels of oxygen related to prematurity are known to cause damage to the brain, further damage could also be caused by giving too much supplemental oxygen. This research can thus lead us on the path to prevention of some causes of cerebral palsy.

  • Researchers collaborating at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and Purdue University in Indiana will examine the relationship between swallowing and speech mechanisms at several physiological levels. A better knowledge of typical and atypical development of swallow and speech could lead to improved treatments for these functions in cerebral palsy, which have the potential to be life-changing and life-saving.
