Event Details

Attn:  Nursing Students

We will no longer be accepting registrations from nursing students for advanced American Heart Association classes.  This does not include healthcare provider CPR, however, classes such as ACLS, PALS, PEARS and NRP will not be offered to students.  In discussions with AHA personnel we found they discourage such training in students who will not have the opportunity to use the skills.

Pre course Requirements

Student must hold current American Heart Association Healthcare ProviderBLS certification card (completed following the 2015 AHA/ECC Guidelines). You will not be taught BLS or use of the AED in the course. You will be required to demonstrate correct skills for Adult 1-Resuer BLS and AED test use without prompting.

PEARS teaches providers how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider. The goal of PEARS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes

PEARS is for healthcare providers such as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), medical and surgical nurses, Respiratory Therapists, school nurses and any other healthcare provider who infrequently sees critically ill infants and children

 Course Content

• Pediatric assessment
• Assessment and management of respiratory problems
• Recognition and management of shock
• Identification and management of cardiac arrest
• Resuscitation team concept

Criteria for successful completion include attendance at the entire session, satisfactory score on written exam and demonstration of proficiency at skills.

Community Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by Montana Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

There is no conflict of interest for anyone in a position to control the content of this activity.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charges for such a course do not represent income to the Association
