Description

London’s Other Favourite Night of Renaissance Motets & Booze!™'s residency at Travelling Through is back for more come & sing & drink fun

In among the Renaissance crackers will be some traditional Christmas carols to provide some old skool seasonal cheer!

It's a 6.30pm kick-off and spaces are limited so we must ask that you don't book unless you are absolutely sure you can make it on time.

Booking goes live at 5pm on Friday December 14th with more spaces released at 9am on Saturday the 15th. Please read the FAQs below before booking.

FAQs

What will we be singing?

We sing a cappella choral music from the 16th century; our setlists feature a good mix of both sacred and secular pieces.

Do I need to be able to read music to take part?

You do need to be a confident sight singer; the Counterpint in the Café sessions are half the size of the regular PDtP singalongs so you should be willing and able to sing out and hold your line against the other voices.

Can I really not get in if I arrive after 6.30pm?

No, you really can't. (Or should that be 'yes, you really can't'? Whatever.) Our generous hosts at Travelling Through will be looking after us in the cafe downstairs, which means they cannot leave the bookshop open and unattended once the session has started.

What happens if I book but don't turn up?

As we need to rely on everyone being there for the balance of voices, any no-shows or cancellations on the day will be excluded from booking future Counterpint in the Café sessions. Cruel but fair.

Do you provide print-outs of the scores?

No, only the links to the scores; you need to download them, print them out yourself or better yet, save them to a tablet and do the planet a favour. NB You must download your scores in advance as the cafe does not have sufficient wifi to download on the night.

How does the waiting list work?

If your voice part is sold out, you can register on the waiting list but you must state whether you want a soprano, alto, tenor or bass spot after your surname; if you don't you won't be able to take a space if/when it bcomes open. The waiting list is limited to 5 names; once it's full it will show as 'sold out' and no more names can be added.

Please note: joining the waiting list does not guarantee you a place at the session.

Is there food and drink at the venue?

The cafe provides very reasonably priced light bites, plus excellent wines and bottled beers as well as teas and coffee and soft drinks. ***Please note that food or drink bought from elsewhere must not be consumed in the cafe.***

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Travelling Through's cafe is located on the lower ground floor with no lift so regrettably the event is not suitable for anyone who is unable to use stairs.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Tube, rail, bus, bicycle, on foot - see polyphonydownthepub.com/counterpint or tfl.gov.uk for details.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

See polyphonydownthepub.com for all the answers you could ever wish for.
