Description

Perth Community Organising Collective (PCOC) brings you our first 2018 workshop: Leadership And Organising In Your Community

Winning movements require skilled organisers!

Are you passionate about the resilience and well-being of your community, but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’re a highly skilled organiser with plenty of experience to share? Or maybe you are just sick of the lack of leadership in politics today?

This workshop aims to enable organisers, potential and existing community leaders to get the best out of yourselves, and movement leaders.

We’ll explore how we can best create awareness of social justice and environmental movements; as well as giving power to marginalised and oppressed communities.

Leadership is an essential part of any successful community or campaign. In this workshop we will share how effective, reliable leaders are able to accept responsibility to build and maintain conditions which enable others to work together and achieve a shared purpose.

The workshop will be co-facilitated by Luke Skinner & TBA and will cover topics such as:

  • What is a leader
  • Building/managing relationships
  • Taking (and sharing) responsibility
  • Being (and not being) full-time leader
  • Building confidence of self-professed ‘non-leaders’
  • Leadership styles & collective leadership
  • Dealing with failure and conflict

PCOC workshops for change are an open share-space for participatory learning, sharing, and listening. Whether you are new to community organising, or a seasoned veteran we encourage you to come along to participate in this shared and open experience.

Pay by donation, the facilitator is providing their time as a gift to the movement. The funds raised will be used for catering and forwading the work of the Perth Community Organisisng Collective. We are always seeking accessible and free venues with potential allies, if you have suggestions, let us know.

“Community Organising is a process of building power through training and supporting leaders to activate their community, build effective teams and create solutions to identified problems. Strong personal relationships and motivational story telling are the foundation of community organising whilst the process of strategising and winning campaigns help strengthen and maintain community empowerment.”
