Event description

Description

It’s 2018 let’s face it we live in an online world.

This workshop is all about how we can harness technology and our devices to engage people and include them in our movements. People with different abilities to participate, people from near or far and people who are squeezing in action in their spare moments.

This workshop will:

  • Build a clear understanding of what digital forms are available,
  • Clarify how they can support your community organising,
  • Help you make the most of databases, lists and communication platforms,
  • Figure out how to empower people you don’t even know yet,
  • Talk about setting boundaries to manage and deal with constant communications, notifications and personal pressure.

You will understand the difference between organising with people online, versus campaigning at them.

Facilitated by experienced digital organisers Simon Van Hattum from the Lock the Gate Alliance and Luke Skinner from United Voice.

Pay by donation, the facilitator is providing their time as a gift to the movement. The funds raised will be used for catering and forwarding the work of the Perth Community Organisisng Collective. We are always seeking accessible and free venues with potential allies, if you have suggestions, let us know.

“Community Organising is a process of building power through training and supporting leaders to activate their community, build effective teams and create solutions to identified problems. Strong personal relationships and motivational story telling are the foundation of community organising whilst the process of strategising and winning campaigns help strengthen and maintain community empowerment.”
