PCOC 2016 Workshop 9: This Is An Uprising
Venue: Uniting Church in the City
Organisers and campaigners the world over are grappling with the challenges of creating significant and sustained change. Mark and Paul Engler’s book This is an Uprising is an attempt to move all our efforts forward, drawing on historical stories from a range of social movements as well as insights from theorists.
They bring together two approaches that appear to be at odds: long-term organising, steadily building organisations and developing leadership; and short-term uprisings, gathering the momentum of outrage and disruption.
This session will present some of the key insights from This is an Uprising and make space for discussion about how tools and principles can be applied in our diverse social change work. You don’t need to have read the book to be part of this discussion – but if you have it will be great to hear what you think!
