About this event

The Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education (PCHE), and its member institutions, invite you to join them at a regional Title IX 50th Anniversary conference hosted by Duquesne University at campus in uptown Pittsburgh. PCHE and its schools are deeply committed to the important principles underlying Title IX, such as equal access to education and an environment free from unlawful discrimination, harassment or assault. During this conference, we will honor the legacy of Title IX and explore ways to continue that legacy by further advancing equity and inclusion.

Highlighted speakers include:

Dr. Tanya Garcia, Deputy Secretary and Commissioner for Postsecondary and Higher Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education

Dr. Liz Miller, chief of Adolescent Medicine at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, and professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh

Highlighted topics include:

  • Current policy, practices, and protocols of the federal Office of Civil Rights
  • Hot topics faced by Title IX Coordinators
  • Law Enforcement’s role in coordinating investigations and supporting victims
  • The Intersection of Disability and Sexual Misconduct
  • Challenges facing marginalized communities when reporting & the importance of outreach and support
  • Effective ongoing Student Support through the Title IX Process
  • Implementing Innovative Prevention Practices Across Campuses

  • Making the case for SANEs on every campus

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? PCHE and other regional schools’ Title IX teams, broadly defined to include team members from offices of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Title IX, Student Affairs, University Counsel, Counseling/Health Services, Public Safety, and Athletics.

WHAT IS THE COST? Cost will be $25.00 per attendee plus an Eventbrite processing fee. This cost is meant to partially offset costs such as lunch and a light continental breakfast.

PCHE Members: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Community College of Allegheny County, Duquesne University, La Roche College, Pittsburgh Technical College, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Point Park University, Robert Morris University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
