Description:

Physiologically based (pharmaco)kinetic (PB(P)K) modelling has a crucial role in next generation (non-animal) risk evaluations to inform the design of in vitro studies and to translate the data obtained from in vitro models to human dose−response or potency information. The goal of this two-day training is to introduce participants to the basics of in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) PB(P)K modelling to predict plasma and tissue concentrations of a chemical. The training is built around bisphenol A as a case-study compound. On the first day insights will be provided on how to derive in vitro and in silico data for intestinal uptake, liver metabolism, and partitioning in organs and how to code these processes in a PB(P)K model in R. On the second day, the Certara SimCyp software will be used to construct and further optimize the PB(P)K model for bisphenol A, including the prediction of human variation in plasma concentrations. The training is co-organised by Wageningen University and Certara SimCyp. Given the COVID restrictions the training will be provided online. Starting level is basic/medium experience.

The training consists of:

– Recorded lectures that cover the basic principles of PB(P)K model-development and the application of PB(P)K modelling in different fields (e.g. safety evaluations of pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals, development of alternatives to animal testing). The lectures and learning objectives from hands-on training will be discussed in live and interactive sessions with the trainers.

– Hands-on experience on how to derive the in vitro and in silico chemical-specific input parameters for intestinal uptake, liver metabolism, and partitioning in organs.

– Hands-on experience with the implementation of a basic PB(P)K model in R.

– Hands-on experience with the use of Certara Simcyp’s Population-based Simulator

– Use of the models to extrapolate in vitro bioassay results to human dose-response or potency information

What's the refund and cancellation policy?

Refunds are available only if Altertox Academy cancels the event. This is stated on the participant’s receipt once registered. However, tickets may be transferable if the ticket holder is unable to attend the event. In principle the ticket may only be transferred within the same price category but a final decision will be made at Altertox Academy's discretion.
