Port Townsend: Long Views, Low Tides and Lavender

Enveloped in big sky, a thick forest rings the wide meadow as it slopes down past the lagoon to the rocky shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The morning paint out is at the “Chinese Gardens” of Fort Worden State Park. The gardens are long gone but the sweeping vistas remain. With a low tide of 0.09 ft predicted at 7 am, the adjacent beach provides additional opportunity to pick your scene. After lunch, we move to Wilderbee Farm - a family run farm just outside the city limits where the lavender field is at its peak. The field smells divine this time of year and is paired with other fields of flowers, sheep, hens, sheds and a small lake.

Recommended lodging
There is a variety of camping and lodging at Fort Worden. Other lodging is detailed at

What to bring/not bring
Dress in layers. Be prepared for rain. Or sun. Bring water. Water is available at The Commons but not at the painting sites. A Discover Pass is not necessary for the locations where we will paint. There are porta potties at North Beach and Wilderbee. Nice restrooms at The Commons.

Cell coverage may be limited at North Beach.

What else to consider?
Karen Bakke is sharing facilitation with Joyce as Joyce is preparing for the studio tours the next day. Isn’t Karen the BEST?!

Because Wilderbee is an organic farm, please be considerate of waste disposal. And stay on the paths. But you already assumed that, didn’t you?

It will be a spectacular day of painting! See you there.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

As long as you are a PAWA member.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, the facilitator should have a member list and cell phone numbers to conduct a headcount.

Please try and carpool with other PAWA members anytime you can! You may post on our Facebook page to share transportation. If you find you can't attend after all, please cancel on Eventbrite so that the facilitator may have a proper head count, thanks!

All paint-outs are for Plein Air Washington members. You must be a member to attend paid events. It is easy to join PAWA online. Please have any friend do so if they would like to participate. Please ask the facilitator if a guest can come to a free event. Sometimes there may not be enough space for non-members. A spouse is always welcome.

It is a good idea to print out this Eventbrite page and bring with you to be able to refer to this information.
Thank you for signing up and HAPPY PAINTING!
