"Come Ready to Paint!"

One of the best beaches in Washington per Frommers is Rialto Beach. Just north of LaPush, Rialto Beach is at southern end of a 29-mile long stretch of wilderness beach. Mora Rd. runs to parking lot just above Rialto Beach and is a good starting point for hikes. From huge sun bleached logs to tidepools teaming with starfish, to haystack rocks, to huge rounded pebbles along the route to the Hole-in-the-Wall, this stroll is awesome! Most people walk 1 mile up beach to Hole in Wall during low tide, (1.5 miles north of parking lot) which is huge monolith that waves have bored tunnel thru. Some really awesome “ghost” trees up towards Hole in the Wall that were killed in a storm. Sand and rocks thrown up into the forest. Beautiful in the fog. Pay attention to tide when going to hole in the Rock. It is a long hike and the tide comes up to the path going there.

Facilitator: Karen Bakke thebakkegallery@gmail.com 360-421-3178

We will spend one full day at Rialto Beach, one full day at 2nd Beach. UPDATE-the aecond day will be at RUBY BEACH.

We have reserved "glamping" tents for 3 nights just 10 minutes from the beaches. There are other places to stay, but are difficult to find outside of the town of Forks. There are hotels and other rentals in Forks and around the area. The State Park on the beach is first-come, first-served. This is why we rented the private property tent sites. They come with all the provisions (read review below). You don't need to bring anything but your clothes, plein air gear and food.

Second Beach is always amazing at sunset. Here is info on that area-

Suggestion from Mark Boyle: We can eat out in La Push at the “Rivers Edge Restaurant” near the marina. Cool restaurant with big windows right on the river mouth. 3 rivers resort gas station / restaurant has good burgers. Right there at Mora road turn towards Rialto Beach.

PAWA has reserved 6 tents (with 2 cots each) on a private property through AirBnB. We have obtained a group rate for the three nights and are passing the cost on to you, $135/tent for all three nights! Buddy up or bring your spouse! It includes "kitchenettes" in each tent; a camp stove, supplies and a cooler with an ice machine nearby. Hot showers and porta potties are also available. Reserve soon, only 6 available! If you desire to stay elsewhere, mget online, as this is a popular area in August! UPDATE- They may have more tents available for late-comers. Please email Karen for the contact information.

AirBNB Review- "Services rendered exactly as advertised. We were a large group. She's very proactive that she provided us a big shelter and kitchen area with everything in it(3burner stove, pots and pans, utensils, 2 garbage bins, water tanks, several cooler with ice, heaters for each tent and outside heater, charcoal grills with charcoal, and etc). You just tell her what you need and she would find a way to provide and make it work. The shower tent with hot shower is fantastic. Port a potty is well-cleaned too. She even brought us our own port a potty close to our tents. Definitely she exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!"

No parking passes needed on Olympic park parking lots. No park entry fees yet out there.

PLEASE try and carpool with other PAWA members anytime you can!

You can post on our Facebook page to share transportation.

If you find you can't attend after all, please cancel on Eventbrite so that the facilitator may have a proper head count, thanks! If you don’t know how to cancel, contact admin.

All paint-outs are for Plein Air Washington members. It is easy to join PAWA online. Please have any friend do so if they would like to participate. Please ask the facilitator if a guest can come to a free event. Sometimes there may not be enough space for non-members. A spouse is always welcome. It is a good idea to print out this Eventbrite page to bring with you to be able to refer to this information.
