Event description
Have questions about how childhood trauma impact behaviors? Want to learn how to incorporate mindfulness into your advocacy role?

About this Event

Join VOICES in welcoming Phoenix Children’s Hospital and their Kohl’s Community Outreach Program, Mindful Me, in defining and explaining adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and developmental trauma as well as briefly exploring brain development and how the human brain prioritizes and changes based on experiences. Healthy Kids and Family Specialists Allison Gilbert, MPH and Beheir Johnson, MS, CHES will discuss typical age-appropriate behaviors, behaviors associated with developmental trauma, and how behaviors function. Finally, CASAs will be given the opportunity to explore strategies for better communication, understanding, and problem solving, such as intentional breathing, self-care, and managing judgmental thoughts to help support their youth.

* Note: this training was previously held at VOICES on November 19, 2019
