Description

Description

Come join us for a live version of the listen and learn webinar session designed to describe some of the common barriers and challenges refugees and immigrants may face in accessing emotional support and care. We feature the development and use of a culturally validated tool designed to identify symptoms of depression and anxiety in refugees and immigrants (the Refugee Health Screening-15). Attendees will have the chance to dialogue about the importance of culturally specific service provision and supports.

Learning Objectives

  • Increase understanding about the validated tool (RHS-15) for mental health created through the Pathways to Wellness project why it is proving to be effective in detecting emotional distress across cultures;
  • Describe how the RHS-15 was developed, explore its appropriate application and how to offer non-stigmatizing referral support;
  • Enhance understanding of the refugee experience and its connection to emotional distress;
  • Facilitate dialogue among providers around the use of cross-cultural tools for refugee mental health.
