Event Details

Now more than ever, it is essential for people of faith to engage in the most challenging struggles of our time. Growing economic inequality and ecological devastation are at the center of the struggle for justice around the world. At Vanderbilt we know that a better world is possible and we believe that what we do here can prepare people to be activists across disciplines in religious organizations, nonprofits, governments, and other sectors. This conference bring together many of the resources available at Vanderbilt to allow for engagement, inquiry, and reflection about new approaches to addressing the most pressing issues of economic justice in our communities and greater society.

This conference is designed for:

  • Prospective students exploring graduate education in one of Vanderbilt’s professional schools;
  • Current VU graduate and professional students;
  • Members of the broader community interested in deepening their reflection and practice around issues of economic justice

The conference is offered in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Divinity School, Peabody College of Education and Human Development, and the Turner Family Center for Social Ventures.

Vanderbilt Divinity School

Vanderbilt Divinity School is an interdenominational, ecumenical theological school located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee.

In a global and multi-religious world, the Divinity school seeks to fulfill the following objectives:

• to engage in theological inquiry;
• to help persons prepare for the practice of Christian ministry and public leadership;
• to encourage personal and spiritual formation;
• to prepare agents of social justice; and
• to educate future scholars and teachers, locally and globally.

The school is committed to active participation in the struggles of individuals and groups for a healthier, more just, more humane, and more ecologically wholesome world. It has special concern for the oppressed, for prisoners, for the poor, for victims of warfare and militarism, for the effects of environmental destruction, and for the securing of equal opportunity for all individuals, peoples, and creatures to enjoy God's gifts.
