Event description

Description

Pilgrimages are not a thing of the past. Today, more people than ever are undertaking ritual journeys of moral, spiritual or cultural significance, seeking deeper experiences of the divine as well as personal transformation.

The PRC is hosting a series of events, Roads Less Traveled, at Tellus 360 in downtown Lancaster where people of all faiths and none can explore and share what “pilgrimage” means to them in the 21st century. We will explore the spiritual journey in both religious and non-religious contexts and we will be hearing stories that span the good, the bad, the funny and the ugly from across the world.

Join us on Monday January 22 at 7.00pm for “Paths, Journeys and Choices”, the first in this series, Dr. Anne Thayer (Lancaster Theological Seminary) and Fr. Rob Schoeck (St. James Episcopal Church) will unpack different understandings of the how, what and why of spiritual journeys.

Dr. Anne T. Thayer is the Paul and Minnie Diefenderfer Professor of Mercersburg and Ecumenical Theology and Professor of Church History at Lancaster Theological Seminary. Anne is particularly interested in late medieval and early modern Christianity, the history of preaching and pastoral care, and the popular communication of religious ideas.

Fr. Rob is an ordained priest serving as the Associate Rector at Saint James Episcopal Church. He has a passion for pilgrimages and how we encounter God in the sacred spaces in the world around us. He has coordinated and led pilgrimages to the Holy Land and to England, and is looking forward to an upcoming pilgrimage to the Holy Land in April 2018.

P.S. “Running as Spiritual Practice” - On March 26 at 7:00 pm, led by Penn Ketchum and Ned Pelger
