Patent Basics for Startups – What small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs should know about intellectual property with a focus on patents. This panel brings together an in-house counsel, Laura Sheridan of Google; an IP attorney with a focus on start-ups, Michael Kasdan, a partner at Amster Rothstein & Ebenstein LLP, a mid-sized IP boutique; Orin Herskowitz, VP of Intellectual Property and Tech Transfer at Columbia University; and a NYC-based official from the US Patent & Trademark Office, Mindy Bickel.

When & Where
Mindy Bickel represents the US Department of Commerce and the US Patent and Trademark Office in a first of its kind partnership with Cornell Tech. In this capacity, she works closely with Cornell University as they endeavor to build Cornell NYC Tech, a graduate level campus which will be located on Roosevelt Island in New York City. In addition to working with Cornell, Ms. Bickel works with other local educators in the New York City metropolitan region. She also works with innovators and entrepreneurs in the City of New York, providing them with appropriate information and resources offered by the Department of Commerce.
