Introducing Alethea McCollin

Alethea McCollin’s first play EVER was her hip-hop musical Rapunzerella, which she wrote, directed, and produced as a first form (sixth grade) student at an all-girls Catholic school back in the day. Having veered away from play writing, her passion for the genre was reignited when she pursued her Master’s degree in English, and further stoked through her involvement in her church’s drama ministry. To date, this boss lady and former English professor has written 14 plays. Of these, seven are gospel plays with her other works being explored through genres as diverse as social feminism, satire, and drama. In 2014, her play Shh…AIM!!—a play about sexual trauma was staged by the Virginia State Players.

Ms. McCollin continues to pursue her passion for storytelling. MA English: Virginia State University BSc Economics and Law: University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados.
