Educators and School Administrators...

Join us for the 2017 Global Education Tour of China, October 21-29, 2017. The Region 8 Education Service Center and The Summit, in conjunction with The Elite Cultural Exchange of Shanghai, are inviting up to 20 educators and school administrators to visit schools, meet Chinese educators, and local government and education officials in the cities of Haian and Heifi City, China (North of Shanghai). Participants will also enjoy one day of visiting historical and cultural sites in Shanghai, China.

Program Cost: $750 per person (flight and travel visa not included)*

*Program cost includes all lodging, meals, ground transportation, and high speed rail tickets, as well as, limited tourism excursions in Shangai, China. The program cost DOES NOT include airfare and required travel visa. Requests for single occupancy (private) rooms will be assessed an additional charge by our Chinese hosts (i.e., approximately $40 per person, per night).


American-Chinese Delegation 2016

Educators participating in the 2017 Global Education Tour of China will have an opportunity to:

  • Study the Chinese Education System (Curriculum & Instruction)

  • Participate in Conversations regarding Character Education, Student Mental Health, and Community-School Relations

  • Compare/Constrast Urban vs. Rural education issues in China

  • Tour/Visit Schools and Observe Chinese Educators approach to STEM Education

  • Tour/Visit Historic and Cultural Sites in Shanghai, China


Participants are required to secure their own roundtrip flight to Pudong International Aiport in Shanghi, China. Participants need to arrive by the evening of Saturday, October 21st. Participants will be met by our hosts and transported to the hotel where all Global Study Tour participants will be staying.

NOTE: It is recommended that participants consider flights from Chicago and/or Detroit. Flights from Fort Wayne International Airport are averaging between $900 - $1,100 roundtrip. Alternatively, flights from Chicago or Detroit are currently averaging between $700 - $900 roundtrip. Participants must arrive in Shanghai by the evening of Saturday, October 21st. It is recommended that return flights be scheduled for after 12:00pm on Saturday, October 29th.

Participants are responsible for and are required to possess a valid Passport and Tourism Visa*.

*After registering on Eventbrite, an official invitation will be sent to each participant by The Summit & The Region 8 Education Service Center (via the Elite Cultural Exchange). This letter will be needed to secure your tourism Visa with the Chinese government. There are several online options available for securing a travel visa to China, but participants should visit the Chinese Embassy website and U.S. Department of State website to review all requirements for securing a travel visa to China.

NOTE: The cost of flight and travel visa is not included in the program cost of $750*. Requests for single occupancy rooms will result in additional charges (approximately $40 per person/per night).

Payment #1 - Due by 8/31/2017 - $300

About your Tour Leaders, Dr. Brad Oliver and Mr. Joshua Wenning:

  • Dr. Brad E. Oliver serves as Director of Education at The Summit. Prior to joining The Summit in 2015, Dr. Oliver served as Associate Professor and former Dean in the School of Educational Leadership at Indiana Wesleyan University. Dr. Oliver has been an educational leader in Indiana for more than 20 years, serving as a classroom teacher, principal, and central office administrator in the school communities of Noblesville, Twin Lakes (Monticello, IN), and Muncie. Dr. Oliver is a past member of the Indiana Professional Standards Advisory Board and the Indiana State Board of Education.

  • Josh Wenning is the Executive Director at the Region 8 Education Service Center of NE Indiana with 20 years of experience in K-12 education as a teacher, coach, and administrator at the building, district, and regional level. He is a Gallup Certified StrengthsFinder Coach and is a global champion for using strengths to move individuals and organizations towards excellence. As Vice-President of Development and Talent Acquisition at Summit Coaching and Consulting Group, Josh brings StrengthsFinder to sectors outside of K-12 education. His education experience includes earning a B.S. at Indiana University, a M.Ed. at Indiana Wesleyan University, a M.A. at Michigan State University, and is in the dissertation phase of his Ph.D. at Indiana Tech with a focus on Global Leadership. Josh is married to his wife Holly and they have four sons.
