Event description
Join acclaimed walk leader Bob Inman and discover many of the features of Pasadena’s early 20th century architectural heritage!

About this event

We will be exploring many of the features of Pasadena’s early 20th century architectural heritage south of Del Mar Avenue. A focus early in our walk will be on the bungalow court, a residential style that was invented in Pasadena. Then we turn into the historic Madison Heights neighborhood which was developed between 1910 and 1917. We touch on the Oak Knoll neighborhood where the street plan departs from the rectilinear grid and becomes curving flow drawn to adhere to valleys and ridge lines under a canopy of trees. We survey a variety of architecture style from Craftsman to Pueblo to experimental Bubble. Most of the walking is done on residential blocks. The narrative will provide context for many of the features that we pass. This is a hike full of quiet tree-lined blocks and enchanting homes.

Length: 5 miles, with a 20 minute restroom break near the mid point
