Interested in archaeology?

The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) records artefacts found by members of the public, helping local people write local, and sometimes national, history. The PAS office for Lancashire and Cumbria is looking for volunteers to help record artefacts, adding to the 1.8 million objects so far.

At this taster session, you will have a go at describing, identifying, and producing photographs for objects from our handling collection. We will also cover some basic information about object care and hazards, how PAS works, and how the records we make contribute to British archaeology.

If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up for a follow-up videocall at the end of the session.

This session is aimed at people who are interested in volunteering, but may also be relevant for students who are interested in working with PAS, or with PAS data, in future.

Please bring a laptop (or tablet) if possible. Some volunteer roles require a laptop.
