Event description

Description

Partner for Science Learning Design Institute

Philadelphia, PA

OVERVIEW

Partner for Science Learning is an institute designed to support educators thinking about how they might work together at the intersections of science and literacy and formal and informal education.

A local writing project and science museum field a four-educator team to attend the design institute, March 15-18, 2017, in Philadelphia, PA. The team registers and pays the $800/team registration fee, unlocking an invitation which will pay airfare, lodging, and most meals (see below). Teams will spend three days learning together about connected learning, and several model projects funded by the Intersections Initiative, while also spending time together in directed design thinking to imagine a similar Intersections project in their local contexts.

You will:

  • Learn about pilot projects that might serve as models for work at your own site

  • Get to know your partner organization, their mission and goals

  • Explore intersections of shared interest

  • Create a draft design of a possible Intersections Project

  • Brainstorm possible local funding sources

REGISTRATION DETAILS:

  1. One representative from each team will register for the group.

  2. There must be two attendees from the Writing Project and two attendees from the Science Center.

  3. You will need the Name, Title, Institution, and Email Address of each attendee upon registration.

  4. The registration fee of $800/ team is payable by credit card only and is required at the time of registration.

  5. Registration Fee includes travel to Philadelphia, up to 4 nights housing in a double room at a conference hotel, breakfast and lunch each conference day, one dinner, and one cocktail party. Local ground transportation and other meals are to be covered by participants.

  6. This is a first-come first-served event. Registration closes on February 1, 2017 or when tickets are sold out, whichever comes first.

  7. Just after the February 1 deadline each attendee will receive an email with details on how to book travel to Philadelphia, PA for March. All flight costs up to $600 are covered up front when using our travel agent. If you choose to book your own ticket at this time you will not be reimbursed until the event has ended.

  8. We will be making all sleeping room reservations for the group. The instructional message in February will allow requests for a preferred roommate.

  9. Partnerships that successfully complete the institute, share a project idea in process, and complete a follow up interview with Inverness Research, will have their $800 registration fee returned (perhaps it can serve as seed money for your new project).
