Event Details

Parthenos Training Suite, African Languages and Digital Humanities

The methodological commons of Digital Humanities provides a variety of approaches and applications within the domain of language texts as well as approaches to the digitisation of texts. Some of the advantages of digitizing language manuscripts include preservation for future us as well as making it more accessible to researchers around the world. Once a text or manuscript is digitized and annotated, automatic algorithms or qualitative investigations can be used to study the usage and distribution of words, phrases, grammatical structures etc. This workshop will introduce the domain and where to find help.

This workshop is sponsored by SADiLaR, The Parthenos Project and the Digital Humanities Association of Southern Africa.

The aim of the workshop

  • To provide participants with an overview of Digital Scholarship / Digital Humanities within the domain of linguistics and literature studies.
  • To provide participants with an introduction to tools and platforms used in Digital Humanities, such as the Parthenos Training Suite.
  • To provide participants with specific hands-on skills when using Voyant-tools for analysing text data.

Students, scholars and faculty members from the language domain are invited.
