Event Details

We are thrilled to announce that on October 16, the 3rd event of the MBK Trauma and Healing Learning Series will feature Dr. Tiffani Johnson, MD, MSc.

Dr Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, where she studies race and racism and its impact on child health. She is currently exploring root causes of inequities in the healthcare and early childhood education settings, including research on bias and discrimination.

Join us for another interactive day of learning, as well as deepening our commitment to demonstrating equity in practice in every aspect of our community work.

Previous participants of the Trauma and Healing Learning Series are being given first chance to register, Monday 9/30 and Tuesday 10/1. Only two days of pre-registration! On Wednesday October 2, we will open registration to the public.

More about event host, MBK-Sac

The Healthy Development Strategy Team from the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Sacramento Collaborative has developed a Learning Series for 100 local health practitioners, centered around increasing understanding of the impact of racism on overall wellbeing, and promoting healing-centered approaches to healthcare. Informed by a series of mini-town hall sessions with youth, the Learning Series launched on May 2019 and continues through early fall.

The MBK Collaborative is a network of systems leaders, advocates, community partners, youth-serving organizations and young people working together to address health, education, employment and justice system disparities for young men of color through policy advocacy, systems change and support for effective programs. The MBK Sacramento Collaborative is funded by Sierra Health Foundation and the Obama Foundation and is managed by The Center at Sierra Health Foundation.

We hope you can make it!

Cheers,

My Brother's Keeper Sacramento Collaborative

My Brother's Keeper Sacramento Collaborative

This Trauma and Healing Learning Series is a project of the My Brother's Keeper Sacramento Collaborative, led by the MBK Healthy Development Strategy Team.

The My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Sacramento Collaborative brings cross-sector systems leaders, community partners, youth-serving organizations and youth together to collectively address disparities and improve outcomes for Sacramento young men of color. Aligned to the collective impact model, the Collaborative employs various levels of engagement around four key impact areas: Education, Workforce Development, Justice Systems, and Healthy Development.

The HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT Strategy Team works toward the following objective:

All children have a safe and healthy start to develop cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally. Children and youth grow up protected from trauma, in communities that are safe from violence and crime.
