Event description

Description

Part 2

The seminar will use the book “Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns: A Muslim Book of Colors,” by Hana Khan to talk about the pillars of Islam. In addition to showing you how to use the book in your own classroom, you will have an understanding of the concept behind the Shahada (confession of faith), the Salat (prayer), the Zakat (almsgiving), the Sawm (fasting, especially during the month of Ramadan), and the Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca). These concepts are essential to widening your cultural awareness as a future anti-oppressive teacher.
