TWO-DAY SPINNING BABIES® WORKSHOP with Lorenza Holt, MPH, BDT (DONA), BCCE, Spinning Babies® Approved Trainer

Hosted by Esali Birth – Danielle Bergum, mdbergum@esalibirth.com 304-482-4729

We are excited to offer this two-day workshop. Each day will meet from 9:00 to 5:00 PM. It will be filled with hands-on practice and small group activities to help participants walk away with full confidence in how to apply the Spinning Babies approach. You will learn how to better help parents in the community, clinical setting, or on the L&D floor.

This workshop is for professionals who work with birthing families in both the prenatal and intrapartum periods. Specialties include: doulas, midwives, nurses, nurse practitioners, obstetricians, family medicine doctors, childbirth educators, prenatal yoga instructors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, myo-fascia release practitioners, perinatal case managers, and community health workers.

The Three Principles of Spinning Babies are Balance, Gravity and Movement. This workshop frames the anatomy and physiology of the pregnant body with a renewed understanding. We explore the role and function of the soft tissues of muscles, ligaments, and fascia and how these impact pregnancy, labor and birth. We also explore how daily habits can impact posture, fetal positioning and common restrictions that may lead to discomforts in pregnancy or more difficult labors. But most importantly, this workshop will give you tools and an approach to ease these difficulties.

Spinning Babies will give you a way to promote better fetal positioning during pregnancy through a series of daily activities and techniques that encourage body awareness, greater flexibility and range of motion. When applied in pregnancy the baby can be less restricted in the womb and thus be able to position itself in more optimal ways.

When the Spinning Babies approach is applied during labor and birth, our labor support techniques will give you a deeper understanding of what you can do to help the birthing parent, how you can position her in intentional ways so that the baby can have more room to better engage and descend in the pelvis, rotate through the pelvic floor, or emerge from a tight outlet; all with greater ease. Spinning Babies is going to give you more tools to address that painful and frustrating labor that is failing to progress.

Spinning Babies will teach you about:

  • The anatomy and physiology of the pregnant uterus and the soft tissues that support the pelvic structures
  • The Three Sisters of Balance
  • What parents can do in pregnancy to have less discomfort and greater suppleness in their bodies
  • For labor, you will explore the effects of an occiput posterior labor, assess what a stalled labor pattern is telling us, what techniques we can apply to ease labor progress through the three levels of the pelvis
  • For doulas, we will discuss how within a doula’s scope of practice, you can use the Spinning Babies approach.
