Event hosted by Eli’s Hope
The event will be held in the Northwest Community Hospital Auditorium and surrounding area. Please park in the Visitor Garage as noted on the map (http://www.nch.org/maps-directions/index.php) and follow the signs for the event entrance.
This is a community event, and all Chicagoland preemie parents, family, friends, and medical professionals are welcome to attend. Snack on brunch appetizers and browse the exhibitor booths, which will include representatives from the medical community, as well as other local preemie/NICU support organizations. Neonatologist Dr. Joel Fisher will speak at 10:30 a.m., including a question-and-answer session afterwards.
Parents of Preemies Day is also a child-friendly event with many fun activities for the kids. Mascots from the Chicago Wolves and Schaumburg Boomers will make an appearance. And kids can stay busy with face painting, snacks, and crafts. There will also be a free raffle drawing with great prizes!
The NICU Parent Advisory Council of Northwest Community Hospital is creating a Lending Closet of preemie-sized clothing for their NICU families – if you have any preemie clothing you can donate, please bring it to the event!
Parents of Preemies Day is a national day of awareness taking place on Sunday, March 10th, 2013 that recognizes the courage and commitment it takes to stay strong and resilient when premature birth turns a family's world upside down. Each year, 13 million babies are born prematurely across the globe – many right here in our area. Though medical breakthroughs continue to improve outcomes for preemies, experts are only now beginning to understand the intense psychological effects that premature birth has on parents.
To mark the initiatives second year, the organizers of Parents of Preemies Day are bringing awareness to a global audience. To do this, volunteers are hosting community events across the world, NICUs will be celebrating across the country, and national media coverage will highlight the courage and commitment of all preemie parents. With your help, we will be able to accomplish these goals and make the second annual Parents of Preemies Day a success.
