If you are a parent of a child aged 0-18, you are eligible to join the Parenting the Positive Discipline Way Research Study. The Positive Discipline Association, in cooperation with Eva Dreikurs Ferguson from Southern Illinois University (and daughter of Rudolph Dreikurs, famous author of Children: The Challenge), is conducting a study on the effectiveness of parent training.
Session one of the 6 week series begins Wednesday, October 12th and ends November 16th. Session 2 begins Wednesday, January 18th and ends February 22nd (no class 2/15). Classes are from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and run consecutive weeks. You must be able to attend either session, dependent upon which group assignment you receive. Group assignments are random for the study.
To participate in the study you and at least one child will be asked to attend two short sessions to fill out both a pre and a post questionnaire. These will be done on multiple days/times for your convenience and once you register for the class you will receive a link to Sign Up Genius to sign up for your intake session.
These parent trainings are a really fun way to learn tools for being with kids (and adults) intentionally creating an atmosphere of caring in the often frustrating role of parent. The study is an important piece in creating evidence around what is already known anecdotally to be effective.
