Event description
A 3 hour seminar on Parenting in SPACE followed by a birthmom panel and dinner; and staged reading of Placing Home

About this Event

Ideal for adoptive and hopeful adoptive parents, but open to all, Saturday's workshop kicks off at 2PM with a 3 hour seminar on Parenting in SPACE led by psychotherapist Billy Kaplan. Join us for dinner and a 1 hour birthparent panel at Found Restaurant. Fee includes a ticket to Saturday's staged reading of Placing Home at Piven Theatre.

Have you heard the one about the therapeutic parent and the improv actor? They sat next to each other on a plane, and after talking a while figured out the difference between them: not much! It became clear that in approaching what they do and how they do it they were talking about the same things with slightly different language! In this workshop a psychotherapist, Billy Kaplan, and an improv actor/teacher, Bill Stern, will teach a model for therapeutic parenting through SPACE (safety, support, supervision, structure, playful, accepting, curious and empathic) by using the core principals of improv acting (yes and…, listening, making your partner look good, making and receiving offers, celebrating failure, and surviving risk). Be prepared to learn a lot while getting your laugh on!

$150 per person includes dinner and theater ticket. Space is limited.
