Description

From A(utism) to Zzz's: Sleep in Children and Adolescents with Special Needs

Young people living with chronic physical, psychological or intellectual disabilities or disorders are reported to have more frequent and persistent sleep problems than their peers without “special needs.” Poor quality of sleep has negative effects on both a child's daytime functioning and the functioning of their families but these can be improved with better sleep. With a focus on younger people in the special needs community, the relationship between various sleep disorders, learning, mood and behavior will be reviewed. The current science of the most effective sleep-related behavioral treatments will be discussed, ending with a ‘Q&A’ session for parents.

Limited free childcare will be provided for all parents attending this workshop. Plans for childcare will need to be made beforehand so registration will close one week prior to each monthly workshop.
