King County Superior Court mandated Parent Seminar "What About the Children?" for family law cases.

About this event

HIGHLIGHTS

• Length = 3 hours 15 minutes; must attend beginning to end. Arriving late may mean you must retake the class. Attendance arrival time will be verified with Zoom reports.

• Answer random poll questions for certificate. If you do not answer the poll questions, you will NOT receive a certificate.

• Certificates issued within one week.

• Interpreters available with two weeks’ notice.

• Invitations come from Eventbrite 2 days and again 2 hours before events. Check your spam/junk mail, please.

• Please do not use “junk” email addresses if you wish to receive the invitations, documents, and a certificate. Please make sure both email addresses you enter are correct. Materials and Zoom invitations are sent to the SECOND email address you enter.

• Materials come from ParentSeminar@kingcounty.gov the day before the seminar along with an additional Zoom invitation.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION***

1. Starting 8/6/2021 and until further notice, all “What About the Children?” Parent Seminars are being conducted via Zoom.

2. The class materials will arrive in your email inbox the day before your scheduled class along with a Zoom invitation from parentseminar@kingcounty.gov.

3. Follow the instructions in the reminder emails to access the Zoom class. An email from Eventbrite will be sent two days in advance with the link to the Zoom webinar. A reminder from Eventbrite will be sent two hours prior to class time with the access link. Please do not share this information with others as it is your personal link to sign in.

4. Please sign in using your real name, first and last, and the email you signed up with in Eventbrite. This will help match your attendance with your registration and make sure you receive a certificate.

5. If you do not stay in the Zoom webinar for the entire class, you will not receive a certificate of completion. Your attendance will be verified by answering random poll questions.

a. There will be polls conducted during the seminar. Please answer the poll questions to verify your attendance. Failure to answer the polls will result in not receiving a certificate of completion.

b. When you complete the poll questions, we will issue your certificate within a week. A copy will be emailed to you for your personal records. The original certificate will be filed with King County Superior Court unless your case is in another jurisdiction or you do not have a case number yet.

c. If you attend via a flip phone, you should email the answers to the poll questions to parentseminar@kingcounty.gov once the seminar is over to prove your attendance and attention.

6. Materials are only available in English and Spanish at this time. You will receive a Spanish copy of "What About the Children?" if you request a Spanish interpreter.

7. Interpreters are available for the Zoom webinar. You must request an interpreter at least two weeks in advance of the date of your class. Interpreters are only available for classes that start after 8:30 a.m. and end before 4:30 p.m. Request an interpreter by putting the language you need in the interpreter box at the bottom of the registration form and by sending an email to: parentseminar@kingcounty.gov with that request. We cannot guarantee an interpreter will be available, but we will make every effort to accommodate requests.

7. We will send printed materials to you if you do not have a computer to read the PDF documents. Please send an email requesting this along with your mailing address to parentseminar@kingcounty.gov.

8. If you need a fee waiver, please request information regarding that before you register.

9. Parties must register separately to each receive a certificate of completion. Parties may attend the same seminar as attendance will be anonymous.

10. Registration closes three days prior to classes to prepare materials and attendance lists.

Cost/Payment·

The cost for this class is $40.00 plus Eventbrite fees. The cost can be waived or reduced based on your income. Please see the FAQ section below for fee reduction guidelines.

If you miss the deadline on your case schedule, the registration fee is $75 plus Eventbrite fees.

What if I need a fee waiver?

Please email the class coordinators at ParentSeminar@kingcounty.gov to obtain a code to register at a reduced or waived cost.

Fees are waived per person if your after-tax income is less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or you receive TANF or Food Stamps. For more information: Fee Waiver Guidelines

You must provide proof of your benefits. Acceptable proof of benefits includes current ProviderOne Services card; Proof of state health insurance; SSI or SSDI.

Are both parties able to attend the Parent Seminar together?

Since the class is currently via Zoom and attendance is anonymous, parties in the same case may register for the same Parent Seminar session. Each must register separately to receive a certificate of completion.

What if I need an Interpreter?

Interpreters are available. You must request an interpreter at least two weeks in advance of the date of your class. Interpreters are only available for classes that start 8:30 a.m. or later and end before 4:30 p.m. Request an interpreter by putting the language you need in the interpreter box at the bottom of the registration form and by sending an email to: parentseminar@kingcounty.gov with that request.

Is an ID required?

ID is not required.

What's the refund policy?

You can receive a refund until 1 day prior to the class.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not need a ticket.

How long is the Parent Seminar?

The Parent Seminar is 3 hours and 15 minutes.
