"What About the Children?" Parent Seminar King County Superior Court

About this Event

                          ****IMPORTANT INFORMATION****

1. Starting 4/1/20 and until further notice, all “What About the Children?” Parent Seminars are being conducted by email. Please do not go to either courthouse or the Mercer Island Community Center as classes are all taken care of electronically at this time.

a. Please check the Kent, Mercer Island, and Seattle locations for available classes. Classes are offered on different dates in each location. If one location is full, check the others.

2. The class materials will arrive in your email inbox on the day of the class. We are not able to send them earlier.

3. There is no online component of the class. You do not need to sign into Eventbrite at all after registering.

4. If you do not follow the directions in the letter, you will not receive a certificate of completion.

a. When you complete the necessary steps, we will issue your certificate. A copy will be emailed to you for your personal records. The original certificate will be filed with King County Superior Court unless your case is in another jurisdiction or you do not have a case number yet.

5. There is no time limit, but two weeks is the suggested time frame. Please read the documents in the comfort of your own home at a time that works for you.

6. Materials are only available in English and Spanish at this time. Please request Spanish by noting it in the “Interpreter” box at the very bottom of the registration form or sending an email to: parentseminar@kingcounty.gov with that request.

7. We will send printed materials to you if you do not have a computer to read the PDF documents. Please send an email requesting this along with your mailing address to parentseminar@kingcounty.gov.

8. If you need a fee waiver, please request information regarding that before you register.

The cost for this class is $40.00 plus any applicable fees. The cost can be waived or reduced based on your income. Please see the FAQ section below for fee reduction guidelines. ·

What if I need a fee waiver?

Please email the class coordinators at ParentSeminar@kingcounty.gov to obtain a code to register at a reduced or waived cost.

Fees are waived per person if your after-tax income is less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or you receive TANF or Food Stamps.

Fees are reduced to $10.00 per person if your after-tax (net) income is less than $20,000.00 and is above 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see table below). You must provide proof of your income. Acceptable proof of income includes current Tax Returns; Pay stubs or Unemployment stubs.

Fees are reduced to $5.00 per person if you are receiving SSI, SSDI, or other public benefits and your income is above 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see table below). You must provide proof of your benefits. Acceptable proof of benefits includes current ProviderOne Services card; Proof of state health insurance; SSI or SSDI.

Are both parties able to attend the Parent Seminar together?

No, parties are strictly prohibited from attending the same Parent Seminar session. If both parties are registered for the same Parent Seminar, the party that register second will be contacted to reschedule.

What if I need an Interpreter?

There are no fees for interpreters. Please complete the interpreter section of the registration for to indicate the language needed. Interpreters are NOT available for Parent Seminars held in Mercer Island or scheduled in the evening.

What's the refund policy?

You can receive a refund until 1 day prior to the class.

How long is the Parent Seminar?

The Parent Seminar is 3 hours and 15 minutes long.
