Event description

Description

John O'Sullivan is a best selling author and nationally recognized speaker on youth sports who brings a practical message about the ways we can help our atheltes perform to their potential, and at the same time, giving youth ownership and more enjoyment of their sports experience.

Conventional wisdom holds that youth sports are a positive experience for our children. This is not always true, notes John O’ Sullivan. Currently, 70% of children drop out of organized athletics by the age of 13. Youth sports has become an ultra-competitive, adult centered enterprise that has taken the “play” out of “Play ball” for far too many kids.

John's talk will cover:

  • How to Keep Your Kids in Sports
  • How to Give your Child a Competitive Edge
  • 3 Ways to Change Your Kids Sports Experience for the Better
  • How To Motivate Your Kids to Take Ownership for Sports
  • How to Help, and not Hinder, Their Performance Through the Things You Say and Do

John O'Sullivan is the author of bestselling books Changing the Game: The Parents Guide to Raising Happy, High-Performing Athletes and Giving Youth Sports Back to Our Kids. He is a former college and professional soccer player, and spent the past 20 years coaching at the youth, high school and college level. In early 2013 he left his position with the MLS Portland Timbers to concentrate full time on the Changing the Game Project, his initiative to educate parents and coaches on creating a “player-first” environment that creates a more positive experience for athletes.
