Description

This training is available to paraeducators in the Peace Garden Special Education Unit and Northern Plains Special Education Unit. This training will provide the paraeducator an overview of the field of paraeducation. Topics include roles and responsibilities of a paraeducator, professional and ethical conduct, creating a positive and safe learning environment, understanding the diverse needs of students, interacting with families and working collaboratively as part of a team, human growth and development, and disability awareness.

Upon completion of the training, you will:
• Understand the characteristics of students with various disabilities
• Understand the role of IDEA and other federal laws pertaining to the education of students with disabilities
• Define the roles and responsibilities of a paraeducator as part of an educational team
