Para Los Niños Luncheon: Honoring the Work and Vision of Fr. Mateo Sheedy

Support first generation students on their pathway to college!
The late Monsignor Mateo Sheedy touched many lives as he advocated for social justice for poor and immigrant communities in San José. He saw the children of Sacred Heart parish struggle to finish high school, resulting in limited educational and career opportunities. Fr. Mateo envisioned a school that would provide the academic, spiritual and emotional support needed to break the cycle of poverty through education. Fr. Mateo partnered with the Diocese of San Jose, Sacred Heart Parish and the Jesuits to start a middle school so that the low income Latino youth in the Washington/Gardner neighborhood would have a greater opportunity to succeed. Though he did not live to see the school opening in 2001 and its continued success, his work ripples beyond Sacred Heart to students and families in neighboring charter schools and the greater community.
Now is the time to come together, "Para los Niños," for the children.
