Description

Julie with Loop in NYC!!
Loop is having its second pre-holiday pop-up shop in NYC as guests of mYak at Here Now Space in the West Village. Julie will be flying over from London with Susan of Loop to hold these two very special workshops.

Please note that if you are attending the Friday workshop you will be able to leave after the class and come back in for our Preview event that evening. So, if you sign up for Julie's Friday class and want to come to the Preview event there is no need to book a separate ticket for that as you will automatically be put on the guest list.

Friday November 15th
Saturday November 16th

Please note these are two separate one day workshops.

In this all day workshop, you will be given a papier-mache doll that Julie has handmade.
You will spend the day embellishing the doll with sewing and knitting using Julie's patterns (we're afraid you cannot take the patterns away!)
We have a lovely range of supplies on hand for you to use such as yarns and fabrics but feel free to bring any special fabrics, yarns, buttons or any other bits that you might like to use on the day.
At the end of the day you get to take home your own newly-dressed doll!

There is a 45 minute break for lunch (not supplied by Loop, but there are lots of places very nearby on Perry Street and around the West Village. Feel free to bring your lunch as well and stay in the space and either carry on working or have a quiet break).

Tea, coffee and cakes will be supplied thoughout the day.

You must know a little basic knitting for this workshop.
Please bring your own sewing kit with you - scissors, needles, pins etc. as well as knitting needles appropriate for knitting on 4 ply yarn such as US 3-5 (3.25-3.75mm)

*Prices include materials but please see our note above. Classes are held at Here Now space. Maximum of 12 students per class.

For queries about the workshops email: shop@loopknitting.com
For queries about the location call: 646-318-2475

There will also be a Loop Pop-Up shop on in the same space:

Saturday November 16th 10am-6:30pm
Sunday November 17th 10am-6pm

About Julie Arkell

Julie Arkell is one of the UK’s best recognised, and much loved, contemporary folk artists. She creates delightful imaginative creatures, full of wit and whimsy that bring a smile to your face.

Working in papier-maché and mixed media, Julie combines craft and fine art techniques and process with vintage fabrics, found and discovered curios, papier-maché, stitch and knit to create these unique, and distinctly personal, objects.

Born in London, Julie Arkell studied at West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham before gaining a diploma in textiles at St Martin’s School of Art. Arkell’s work spans art and craft, following traditional folk art techniques of creating doll-like figures from “found” objects, with the approaches of key 20th century artists such as Pablo Picasso, Duchamp and the Pop Art movement by shunning traditional “fine art” techniques and materials, and taking inspiration from the art of children.

Julie Arkell’s work is inspired by old art, textiles, stories, words and phrases. The creatures that Julie creates, each with their own stories, messages and accessories, possess a magical and wistful appeal, and reflect a truly unique contemporary UK folk artist.

Each of the Julie Arkell pieces in our collection of dolls and creatures is a beautiful one-off creation and a truly unique gift for collectors, or for those interested in owning a piece of exquisite contemporary folk-art of their own.

At the pop-up shop we will also have Julie's two books as well as some of her exquisite pieces for sale.
