Event description

Description

Delve into the world of puppet making with these simple, charming animal rod puppets, (also known as articulated paper dolls). Students will choose a reference and pose for their animals, pick a color palette, and learn about breaking down animals or objects into simple shapes. We will paint, color, cut our parts out, and then create joints by punching holes and jointing with metal brads. We may even have time to make enough characters to star in your own puppet show! All materials included.

ABOUT EMILY:
Emily Johnson is a local artist from the neighboring town of North Attleboro, and has been drawing and sewing for as long as she can remember. Her passion is illustration and comics, and she is currently working on illustrations for her first children's book. She also has a passion for soft sculpture, which is sculpture using thread, fabric and stuffing, and has participated in many artisan craft fairs selling her sculptures and mobiles. Emily has taken classes and instruction at many different schools, such as RISD, MassArt, Eliot School Jamaica Plain, The East Side Art Center, Cambridge School for Adult Education, and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She believes art makes us powerful and teaches us to see in a different way, and she also believes that everyone can learn to draw!
