Event description

Description

In December 2013, the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) began hosting a regular forum for the discussion of various privacy-related topics in the Philippines. Since then, the event continues to bring together a diverse pool of experts on privacy, data protection, and other related fields to tackle emerging trends and issues. It seeks to foster joint analyses, multi-sectoral dialogues, and other collaborative efforts in the privacy advocacy.

Next year, FMA is linking up with the Ateneo de Manila University, through the latter’s University Data Protection Office, for the latest edition of the forum. In addition to the usual panel discussions, FMA will also be giving away its compendium of research papers on the right to privacy this past decade.

Conference sessions will include: Privacy and Data Protection: Regional Perspectives; Data Protection in the Classroom; Internet Intermediaries, Privacy, and a Borderless World; Data-Driven Societies and the Individual Right to Privacy; and The Privacy Professional.

Confirmed Speakers, Moderators, and Panelists include: Deputy Privacy Commissioner Ivy Patdu, Damian Domingo Mapa (former Deputy Privacy Commissioner), Jamael Jacob (Ateneo de Manila University), Al Alegre (Commission on Human Rights), Jose Jesus M. Disini (Disini & Disini Law Office), Rose Marie King-Dominguez (SycipLaw), Henry Schumacher (European Innovation, Technology, and Science Center Foundation), Warren Clyde Tompong (Ramon Aboitiz Foundation), Danny Cheng (De La Salle University), Raymond Reglos (Asian Institute of Management), Cheryll Soriano (De La Salle University), Gilbert Andres (CENTERLAW), Robert Paguia (Philippine Statistics Authority), Jessamine Pacis (Foundation for Media Alternatives), and Maristela Miranda, CIPM.
