Event description

Description

Join us during the Austin Black Pride 2018 - Official Events Celebration for the "Too Black to be Queer, Too Queer to be Black" panel discussion held at Six Square Austin's Black Cultural District on June 9th at 1 pm.

“Too Black to be Queer, To Queer to be Black” is a dialogue exploring race and sexuality on a cultural and national level. The purpose of this dialogue is to provide an informed, and critical point of view of what it’s like to be both black and a part of the LGBTQ+ community. With personal perspectives being shared by 6 of Austin's young, vibrant, and brilliant minds of what it's like to be both black and queer; we hope that attendees leave feeling both empowered and aware of the times of which we live.

We‘ll be discussing a myriad of topics that surround lack of visibility, gender expectations, homophobia, the black church, social movements, prejudices, relationships, violence and rejection, politics, and more!

Panelist include:

Moderated by: Constance Upshaw

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm Meet and Greet

1:30 pm – 2:40 pm Discussion

2:40 pm – 2:50 pm Questions

2:50 pm – 3 pm Closing
