Event description

Description

The BEC, IBM and Concordia University are pleased to host students from Faubion School to share an inspiring story about women of color breaking barriers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The movie, “Hidden Figures” is based on the true story of three African American women mathematicians at NASA. These human “computers,” with help from an early mainframe provided by IBM, created computations that enabled John Glenn to become the first American astronaut to orbit the earth.

IBM will facilitate STEM-based activities in the morning followed by a private screening of the movie and an afternoon panel with female STEM leaders to discuss the importance of diversity in education and STEM-related fields.
