About this event
Many of the CINTAS Fellows attended and/or teach at the University of Miami, School of Architecture. Three of them are Jorge L. Hernández, Rolando Llanes, and José Gelabert-Navia. The discussion will cover how their time at the University of Miami, School of Architecture has influenced the fellows. We will also discuss their design projects and teaching experiences.
Jorge L. Hernández received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami in 1980 and his Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia in 1985, where he studied design and the architectural history and theory of the Renaissance. He joined the faculty of the University of Virginia in 1985. Since 1987, he has been a professor of Architecture at the University of Miami and an architect with his firm JLH Architect.
Rolando Llanes received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami in 1983 and his Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He joined the faculty at the University of Miami in 1989. He was a full-time assistant professor there from 1990 to 1998. He was an adjunct professor at Florida International University from 1989 to 1999. He is the President and Founding Principal of Civica, LLC and has specialized in the design of public and private educational facilities.
José Gelabert-Navia received his degree in architecture from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Fine Arts from Cornell University. Gelabert-Navia is an architect and an educator. He is the former Dean of the University of Miami, School of Architecture. He is also regional director, Latin America, for the architecture firm Perkins + Will. He is a professor of Architecture at the University of Miami.
