Palm Anatomy and Morphology/Diagnosing Palm Problems – Dr. Bill Lester, UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County Master Gardener Coordinator and Residential Horticulture Agent II

This presentation will describe the morphological structure and physiological growth of palms and compare to dicot trees, and describe the basic methods needed for diagnosis of palm problems.

Palm Physiological Disorders– Jim Davis, UF/IFAS Multi-County Extension Director, Hernando County and Sumter County

Many disorders of palms appear to the untrained eye as problems due to diseases or insects. This session will explain the important points to consider regarding normal palm structures and diagnosing physiological disorders other than those caused by poor nutrition.

This presentation will go over selecting the right palm for Central Florida. Hardiness zones 9A and 9B will be covered.

Palm Fertilization and Pruning– Brooke Moffis, UF/UFAS Extension Lake County Master Gardener Coordinator and Residential Horticulture Agent III

Yes, these two topics do go together. This presentation will discuss the proper way to prune palms to minimize stress and nutritional deficiencies. This presentation will also point out the differences among palm fertilizer formulations and discuss the best techniques for fertilizer applications.

Most Common Palm Diseases– Jim Davis, UF/IFAS Multi-County Extension Director, Hernando County and Sumter County

This presentation will cover the most common diseases affecting palms. Identification, causal agents and management will be discussed. UF plant disease submissions will also be discussed.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM Palm Scene Investigation (PSI) – Lisa Sanderson, UF/IFAS Extension Sumter County Master Gardener Coordinator and Residential Horticulture Agent II

In this fun presentation, we will look at some common submissions to Extension plant clinics and agents. Can you solve the case?
